Shravan Kumar, or Shravan is the very embodiment of devotion to one's parents. Folklore has it that Shravan's aged parents wanted to visit forty places of pilgrimage. It is a typical Hindu belief that a pilgrimage to the various shrines and holy places, undertaken in old age, purifies the soul. Transport was scarce and costly, Shravan Kumar could not afford it. He decided to put each parent in a basket and tie each to an end of a bamboo pole, which he carried on his shoulders. During the pilgrimage, he lost his life being accidentally shot by an arrow of Dasarath, the prince of Ayodhya. This beautiful statue delicately carved in wood, is an ideal gift for all aged parents from their loving and devoted children.
